As a small business owner, I wear many hats, chandler, marketer, packer, bookkeeper… you name it! But there’s one role that fills my cup more than anything else, connecting with people face to face at in person markets. I’ve been running Candle Collective UK for several years now, and while I love the creativity and flexibility of running a home fragrance business, nothing compares to being out in the world, meeting customers, hearing their stories, and seeing their reactions in real time to the things I've created!.

Markets give me the chance to do what no website or social media post can do, build genuine human connections. I get to hear people say, “This reminds me of my mum’s perfume” or “That scent smells like our honeymoon.” These moments matter. They’re why I started this business in the first place.

There’s something so special about watching someone pick up a candle or diffuser and fall in love with it, right then and there. No algorithm, no shopping cart abandonment, just real people, real conversations, and real joy.

Plus, markets are a brilliant way to test new scents, get instant feedback, and meet other indie business owners who just 'get it'. The support and sense of community at these events are second to none. We’re not just selling products, we’re showing up for our dreams.
